As the Principal Investigator for two highly ambitious projects, GRAVITY and SINFONI, as well as the leader in the design of their instrumentation, Frank Eisenhauer has changed astronomy’s relationship with the invisible, supermassive object (presumably a black hole) at the center of our galaxy. His instruments have observed the orbits of stars and the flow of gas near the object, strongly reinforcing the assumption that it’s a black hole and providing a rigorous test of Einstein’s theory of general relativity.
