John H.R. Maunsell

Dr. Maunsell is the Alfred D Lasker Professor of Neurobiology at the University of Chicago, where he also serves as the Director of the Neuroscience Institute.  He received his BS in zoology from Duke University and a PhD in biology from the California Institute of Technology. He did postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He held appointments at the University of Rochester, Baylor College of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute before moving to the University of Chicago in 2014. 

His honors include election to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2002), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2014), and the National Academy of Sciences (2021). Dr. Maunsell’s research addresses the functional organization of visual cerebral cortex, with emphasis on the rapid changes in neuronal representations associated with whether a subject pays attention to a stimulus.
